The Joy of Creating: How New Ideas Keep EJ’s Lures & Flies Growing

At EJ’s Lures & Flies, one of our favorite parts of this adventure is dreaming up new things to make. What started as a simple hobby — just the two of us sitting around a table with feathers, hooks, beads, and a whole lot of curiosity — has turned into a creative journey we never expected. And honestly? We’re having so much fun along the way.

Every time we sit down to craft something new, it feels like opening a little doorway into possibility. Sometimes we start with a color combination that catches our eye. Other times we spot a new material and think, What can we build with this? And every now and then, a totally unexpected idea just pops into our heads — and suddenly we’re trying something we've never tried before.

That’s the magic of creating: you never really know what the final product will look like until it’s sitting right there in your hand.

And the best part? We get to do it together. We laugh, we experiment, we make mistakes, and we make masterpieces. There’s something so special about knowing that each lure and fly isn’t just assembled… it’s imagined, crafted, and tested with love.

Seeing people enjoy them, catch fish with them, or even just admire the craftsmanship — that’s what keeps our imagination moving. It pushes us to keep inventing. Keep learning. Keep making something a little different, a little better, and a little more “us” every time.
